Make Your Email Marketing Better

by on September 30, 2010

As email marketing is such a large part of a successful Internet Marketers business, I thought I would share some tips with you on how to make your communications more effective.

You should always use the option of the double opt in on your auto responder. This will then direct your subscriber to a new page informing them that they must go to their own inbox and click on a link to confirm their subscription. You have the ability to brand the redirect page with your own message making it more personal and giving you a start in branding yourself.

Make sure that your messages do not trigger the spam filters on most email providers. You can do this by not over using common spamming terms like FREE or DISCOUNT or using a row of pound or dollar symbols. There is often a spam gauge on the auto responders that let you know whether the email is passing the filter or not. Be careful or your emails will not reach your targeted audience.

It may be an obvious thing to say but you really must be using an auto-responder. This will enable you to manage and communicate with large lists of people without your brain going into overload. With this you can set up a series of emails and have your subscribers receive a set of pre written emails so that you can concentrate on the other aspects of your business. I would say that this is software that you cannot do without if you have any serious aspirations in your business.

When you design your opt in form put a box in for the first name and a separate one for the last name (or maybe just the first name). This is going to help you when you write your emails because you can use this field to make sure that all your emails are addressed to the first name of the recipient. This makes the emails much more personal and greatly increases your chances of them being opened.

One way to increase the number of people who click on any links you may have in your emails is to make sure that you TELL them to click on the link. Make sure that they have an enticement to do so, maybe a little tease as to what they will find on the other side.

Use your subject line wisely. This is the one thing that will get your readers to check out your email. Make it eye catching and enticing for the recipient. For example: instead of saying Information on Fishing try something like Fishing – 5Ways To Catch The Big One.

Us both HTML and plain text format when you send your mailing. Some ISPs do not support HTML so the message will get blocked unless there is a plain text alternative. Again most auto responders will allow you to do this.

Make sure that your customers have the option to unsubscribe if they wish. This should be a simple process for them and you should always make sure that they are treated with respect. At the end of the day you do not want people on your list who are not going to respond to your offers so it is pointless trying to convince them to stay. This will only end up with people getting irate and that does not help anybody.

You have to make sure that you fully appreciate the subtleties involved in email marketing if you are going to be successful at it. Keep it simple and you will build a relationship with the people on you list and you will find that it can be very successful.
