French speaking television programs will also be beneficial in your language learning. Subtitles will be a must in the beginning but as you become more advanced you wile want to break away from them. In no time you will be up on phrases that you already knew and learn many new ones.
You’ll find that you understand more than you think you do. The good part about watching a talk or news show is that you will be listening to how real people actually speak the language. when learning in the classroom you will not learn the same language that people speak behind closed doors. Watching movies and television shows will clue you in to current slang and other cultural references that you might not be able to learn about in a classroom setting or with an individual course.
If possible, try to think in the language you are studying. As you think of things in your native tongue, repeat them to yourself in French or whatever language it is that you want to learn. Thinking in the new language will become habitual if you practice this often. Once you can think in another language, you’ll find that it’s much easier to speak it out loud. When you can process the language as you hear it (internally) you will have an easier time understanding what is being said and how to respond without having to resort to translators or taking the time to work out your response.
So you can learn another language in a way that is enjoyable. Just consider all of the possible tools that are available that make studying a language simpler! Don’t become impatient if you don’t immediately find the ideal learning style for you. It’s very common for someone to try different learning strategies before they decide which one they are best suited for. If you fit into this category, don’t worry about it. If you are persistent, all of your studying will one day pay off and you will be a fluent speaker of French!
